Book Length Definitions

Every publishing company seems to have slightly different 'definitions' when it comes to book length. We have been asked a little about our feelings on the matter. How long is a short story? Novelette? Novella? Or a novel? What is flash-fiction? And do you publish it?

Thank you for your questions. Here are our answers.

Flash Fiction is normally a story 1000 words or less. We do not publish flash fiction currently.

Short Story: Anything between 1000-10,000 words. At this time we do not publish short stories, though we are planning some anthologies soon which will accept short story submissions.

Novelette: Works of fiction between 10,000-30,000 words. We do publish novelettes, but only in eFormat.

Novella: Works of fiction between 30,000-60,000 words. We publish novellas, both in eFormat and print.

Novel: Works of fiction between 60,000-120,000 words. We publish novels, both in eFormat and print.

+Size Novel: Works of fiction between 120,000-200,000 words. Most publishers frown on novels this size unless they are from a well-known author they know can make it sell. At this time we are not publishing them, though in the future that may change.

Formats for Through the Library Door

Through the Library Door by Thianna D will be published on February 7, 2013.

While many erotic romance novels are published in eFormat and some are published in regular paperback, we have elected to go a step further.

When Through the Library Door is released, it will be in the following formats: ePub Kindle paperback Large Print paperback

Why? We prefer to think of it as, why not? Everyone has their differences when it comes to how they read. For eReaders, some love Kindle, some Nook, some Kobo, some Apple... Plus, there is still a large portion of the population that prefers an actual paper book in their hands.

Nothing wrong with that!

When we began formatting Through the Library Door, it also occurred to us that there are those, whether it be through failing eyesight, dyslexia, or another reason, that need large print. So, we happily formatted in both regular-size paperback and large print.

After all. Everyone deserves the right to read.

Dragon Realm Publishing was originally created as the imprint for all of Cynthia Kimball's works. It has barely been used since.

But, this year, things change. Dragon Realm Publishing will represent books released by Cynthia Kimball and Thianna D beginning this year.
